THE BOB - which is the Bob haircut for you?

The Bob, The Lob, The Pob, The Italian, The French, The Classic, The Graduated, The Bixie, The A Line, The Inverted, The Shingle, The Shaggy, the Curly and so the long list goes on with all the varying names its been given.

Which is the right one for you, if any?

Well we're pleased to tell you that anybody can sport a bob haircut of some description, but it's just knowing which is the best one for your face shape and hair texture!!

First, let's give you a quick history lesson on this wonderful haircut.

(You can skip this bit by scrolling down a little if you just want to get to the nitty gritty..)

The Bob originally appeared in the 1890's, on french actress Polaire. In 1909, fashionable hairstylist Antoine de Paris, a Polish hairdresser who became known as the first 'celebrity hairstylist, was inspired by Joan of Arc, and in the 1920s, he created “The Shingle cut”, which became popular with daring young women in the Bloomsbury set and the flappers ( the likes of Louise Brooks).

After a 20's and 30's surge it was re-invented and brought to life by the one and only Vidal Sassoon in the mid 60's on Mary Quant, Nancy Kwan, and Diana Ross and the Supremes.

Since then the bob has never really gone away, and recently it has made its mark yet again, as models and actresses have opted to cut their long hair into a version of this classic haircut.

Anyway, back to which is the right one for you!!!

As I mentioned before its all about the right one for your face shape..... so here is the low-down!!

Heart Shaped Faces:

Avoid hair cuts that elongate the head. Stay away from bobs ending near the jaw. This will only enhance a shorter forehead.

Textured, or layered chunly bobs below chin level are the best ones to go for.

If your hair is textured, wavy or curly, keep the length below the chin.

Think Kendall Jenner for this face shape.

Pear Shaped Faces:

Pear shaped faces have wider jaw-lines that appear wider than the outside hairline. It’s difficult to flatter this face shape if the hair cut isn't right.

Jaw length bobs are an absolute no-no as they just help to extend the jawline.

A traditional bob, below the jawline is great as it softens the jawline down, plus adding a swept fringe with shorter layers works wonders to flatter this face shape, or an extra short bob around ear length is great too. Curls and soft waves are great with these lengths.

Avoid jaw length at all costs.

Square Shaped Face:

Blunt, boxy hair cuts help to make a square face appear more square and masculine. Avoid them if you can.

Adding softness is imperative. A graduated bob with angled longer pieces at the front helps to elongate a square face. Also parting your hair on the side is perfect for getting a softer look.

Go for asymmetry to counteract the symmetrical square shape, plus add more movement and texture to soften the angles.

Think Keira Knightley.

Round Shaped Faces:

As rounder faces tend to have less angles to them, any hair cut right around chin level would be a mistake, causing this face shape to look even rounder.

Slightly longer bobs with less volume is the best option for a rounder faces.

Avoid wide full fringes and centre partings as they can extend the width of the face.

Keep the length below chin level.

An A line bob is good for a rounder face.

Think Emma Stone

Oval Shaped Faces:

Luckily for those that have this, it is the best face shape to have.

Most hair cuts suit this face shape, especially The Bixie ( The Bob and Pixie cut combined) and wavy bobs with a side swept fringe.

Chin length, jaw length or longer bobs work for this face shape.

Think Emma Watson.

Rectangular ( Oblong) Shaped Face:

If you have a longer rectangular face shape then avoid having your hair longer. It basically makes your face automatically look longer.

Textured chin length and jaw length bobs look great on longer faces because it creates the illusion of width.

Blunt fringes also work well with these lengths.

Think Hilary Swank.

So that's it in a nut-shell really, we hope that info helps.
