So, I’m always being asked “What is Builder Gel?” and “How is it different from regular gel?”
Let me answer some of the confusion! Most people are aware of Shellac, which was one of the original gel brands to launch in the UK.
Shellac is the brand name, it’s a type of hybrid gel. Meaning it’s 50% gel and 50% nail polish. As time evolved, we’ve moved onto using full gel products, as they have better longevity.
Gel polish is a soft gel that can be soaked off with Acetone, compared to Hard Gel, which is predominately used for nail extensions, and cannot be soaked off!
As Gel Polish advanced Builder Gel was developed as a more durable, but also hydrating polish, promoting strength of the nail, and increasing length.
Shellac generally lasts up to 2 weeks, gel polish 2 weeks, and you can expect to get 3 weeks out of your Builder Gel Manicure.
Unlike Acrylic, Hard, or Gel Polish, nails will retain their strength, after a gentle removal. After 3 sessions, nails will be twice as long, and the nail plate will have become a harder foundation. It is imperative however that you book a removal as soon as you develop lifting, usually around the 3 week mark, because if it's ripped off it will take thin layers of the nail plate away with the product, not only leaving nails sensitive to touch, but also reducing the strong foundation. And of course, nails without cuticle oil is like make-up without moisturiser! It’s not an option. Not only will cuticle oil help the dead skin shed naturally, it will maximise nail strength.
My favourite at the moment is L’Huile Camelia Oil by Chanel, which is also featured here in the studio manicures.
All Gel products in the studio are Hema free, look out for my next post, where I’ll give you all you need to know about Hema, and why we opt for products without it!
