Bob Hairstyles: 6 Ways to Style Your Bob ( So You Never Get Bored)
The bob is once again the haircut of the moment. Celebrities, models and so many of our studio guests are choosing this timeless cut, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a true staple: guaranteed to please, and flattering on almost everybody, provided the length suits your face shape and your hair’s natural texture is taken into account.
While the bob continues to thrive, I don’t want to talk about which bob is right for you (I covered that in a previous post a while back https://www.neilmoodiestudio.com/post/the-bob-which-is-the-bob-haircut-for-you. Instead, I’d like to share some different ways to wear it, so you never feel you’ve run out of options.
A great cut is the foundation, but styling is what keeps it feeling fresh.
Here are six of my favourite ways to style a bob differently.

1. Change the Texture
The quickest way to transform your bob is to change its texture. If your hair is naturally straight, a few loose waves or soft curls can give it movement and a romantic feel. Prefer a sleeker finish? A smooth, glossy blow-dry with a flat iron creates a polished, razor-sharp line that looks expensive and effortless. You can also go for a more slick textured look with the use oif some products
Tip: Use a large curling iron for adding soft waves. A babyliss size 32 iron is great for soft waves. Davines Salt Spry is great for getting a more beachy texture. Davines Smoothing oIl and Oil non oil, is perfect for achieving the slick textured look, and even some of their Strong Hold Cream Gel for a slick look if your hair needs a little more controlling.

2. The Wet Look
Sleek, slicked and a little bit editorial, the wet look is a show-stopper for evenings out and special occasions. Apply a styling gel ( Davines Strong Hold Cream Gel) or a shine-boosting cream to damp hair, comb it through, and either slick it back or place a deep side parting. It’s bold, it’s modern, and it takes minutes.
Tip: Go lightly with the product at first. You can always add more if needed , but it’s hard to take it away.
Add some height at the front for a more 50's style or let some curls go loose onto the forehead or at the sides if your hair is naturally curly. A mix of Boucleme's Crem and Gel is perfect for this look on Type 4 hair

Tied Up
Many people assume a bob is too short to tie up, but it can look great pulled back. A low, tucked ponytail or a mini bun at the nape gives a neat, chic look, and works well for the gym or a busy day at work. Leave a few face-framing pieces out for softness.
Add some height on the crown with a little backcombing, to give the look more shape or even braid some of it out of the way
Tip: Secure shorter underneath layers with small clips or pins for a tidy finish. Add some small cute accessories to hold any short bits out of the way.

4. Half Up, Half Down
This one is a favourite for adding interest without losing the shape of your cut. Gather the top section and secure it with a clip, a small claw, or a ribbon or bow. It keeps the hair off your face, shows off your bob’s shape, and works just as well for the office as for a night out.

Want to try an even shorter look without committing to the chop? A faux cropped style is the answer. By tucking, pinning, braiding or tying the length either underneath or at the sides , you can create the illusion of a much shorter, sharper cut. It’s a fun way to experiment, and a great way to see how you’d feel about going shorter in future.
Once you've hidden some of the length you can play around with the top and create different shapes depeding on whether you have long or shorter layers

6. Add A Fringe
This is a slightly more committed way to change up your bob, and you have two routes: try a clip-in faux fringe, or go for the full fringe cut. A fringe can completely transform the way a bob frames your face, whether it’s soft and wispy, curtain-style or blunt and bold.
The best fringe depends on your hair texture, your face shape and even your cowlicks, so I’d always suggest talking it through with your stylist first. A clip-in faux fringe is a great way to test the water before you commit to the real thing. You can see how it looks, how it feels, and whether you’re happy to style it every day. You have various options - short micro fringe, curtain bangs, curly fringe, butterfly fringe and more the choices are endless.
You can purchase faux fringes from American Dream sell a fanstatic renage of fringes in synthetic or human hair and in varying colours ranging from £12.95 - £29.95 https://americandreamextensions.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=fringes
